VII MIRPS Annual Meeting
🗓️December 5th, 2024
The VII MIRPS Annual Meeting will serve as a platform to analyze the current state of displacement in Central America and Mexico, assess progress made in implementing national and regional commitments over the past year, identify remaining challenges, and renew the political commitment of member states and stakeholders involved.
Technical meeting on asylum
🗓️October 15th & 16th, 2024
The technical meeting on asylum brought together the National Commissions for Refugees (CONAREs) and their equivalents from more than 17 countries in the Americas. This event represented the joint efforts of the government of Costa Rica, as 2024 Pro-tempore Presidency of the Quito Process, and the government of Belize, as 2024 Pro-tempore Presidency of the MIRPS.
Sessions on prevention and response to gender-based violence
🗓️May – October, 2024
The MIRPS Regional Technical Team on Local Governance aims to promote protection mechanisms and improve care services for displaced survivors of gender-based violence.
Sessions on child-friendly procedures
🗓️April – August, 2024
In 2024, a series of sessions are organized with MIRPS teams, to provide practical guidance on the implementation of child-friendly and age- and gender-appropriate protection procedures. By the end of the year, MIRPS states will present a document on recommendations, which will guide its systematic implementation at national levels.
VI MIRPS Annual Meeting
🗓️January 24th, 2024
The VI Annual Meeting of the MIRPS will be an opportunity to analyze the progress and challenges in the implementation of the National Action Plans, following up on the commitments made during the Global Refugee Forum, in the context of an unprecedented situation of forced displacement in the region.
Parallel High-Level Event – GRF
🗓️December 13th, 2023
Two panels will bring together representatives of MIRPS States, MIRPS Support Platform Members, displaced persons, the private sector, and civil society to illustrate their commitments and perspectives on protection and solutions in Central America and Mexico.
Learning Event – Colombia
🗓️October 24th – 27th, 2023
The United States, as Chair of the MIRPS Support Platform, in coordination with Colombia as host of the visit, is organizing a learning event from October 24-26 in Bogota for all delegations. Government officials from El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico will be invited as members of the MIRPS Working Group on Internal Displacement.
Learning Event – Costa Rica

The United States, as Chair of the MIRPS Support Platform, in coordination with Costa Rica as host of the visit, is organizing a two-day learning event of presentations and discussions among participants, as well as hands-on visits to see some aspects of Costa Rica’s labor integration strategy in action.

The United States, as Chair of the MIRPS Support Platform, in coordination with El Salvador as host of the event, is organizing a two-day learning event that will include presentations and discussions, as well as field visits where El Salvador’s best practices will be shared.

Regional Forum – World Refugee Day

The Ministry of Government of Panama, as Pro-tempore Presidency of the MIRPS, in coordination with the leading countries of the MIRPS Regional Working Groups, organizes the Regional Forum to commemorate World Refugee Day 2023: Opportunities for the integration of refugees.
Regional Meeting on Reception and Admission

Mexico as leader of the Working Group on Reception, Admission, and Case Processing, in coordination with Panama as Pro-tempore Chair of the MIRPS, organized a meeting between government officials to exchange information and experiences on Digitization, Reception, and Admission.
V MIRPS Annual Meeting

As MIRPS Pro-Tempore Presidency, the Government of Honduras hosted the V Annual Meeting of the MIRPS, which will be an opportunity to discuss the progress and challenges in the implementation of the National Action Plans and the 2023 Regional Plan based on the annual objectives.
Technical training sessions – Gender

The MIRPS working group on Strengthening Asylum Systems will organize three online training sessions on Refugee Status Determination involving gender considerations.
Regional strategy for the recognition of labor competencies
🗓️ November 22nd and 23rd, 2022
The sessions are part of a technical support process for the development of a regional strategy for the recognition of the labor competencies of refugee, migrant, and asylum-seeking workers in Central America and Mexico.
Root causes of displacement: Extortion
🗓️ November 10th, 2022
The session will provide an opportunity for MIRPS States to review recent trends and national institutional responses to extortion and consider the application of tools developed for community resilience.
Sessions on Local Governance

The MIRPS Working Group on Local Governance provides a platform for local governments to share their experiences, best practices, and knowledge on the inclusion of internally displaced persons, asylum-seekers, refugees, returnees, and displaced persons with international protection needs.
International Solidarity Event

As the current Chair of the MIRPS Support Platform, the Government of Canada, is co-hosting with the United States an International Solidarity Event to Strengthen Protection and Promote Solutions for Forcibly Displaced Persons and Host Communities in Central America and Mexico.
Experts Business Roundtable

The Experts Business Roundtable will seek to provide a space for discussion to expand the involvement of the Canadian business community with operations in Central America and Mexico to encourage inclusive hiring practices and employability of displaced population workforce in Central America and Mexico.

The Government of Canada, as the current Chair of the MIRPS Support Platform, convened a 3- day event to share good practices and lessons learned with regards to resettlement policy and processing, complementary pathways of admission as well as settlement and integration policies and practices.
Regional Twinning Meeting

The regional meeting brought together asylum authorities from MIRPS countries and MIRPS Support Platform members who expressed interest in twinning arrangements to strengthen asylum systems in Central America and Mexico.
