Guide for the Registration of People in a Situation of Internal Forced Displacement in Mexico

The Unit for Policy, Migration, Registration and Identity of Persons (UPMRIP) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency (in Mexico launched the Guide for the Registration of Internally Displaced People in Mexico in order to guide the authorities of the 32 states and civil society organizations in the design and implementation of records to identify internally displaced people and their needs, in order to provide comprehensive and coordinated care. It is essential since Mexico does not yet have a general law on the subject, and it is the first document of its kind. The construction of the guide was based on the information provided by 107 institutions at the local and federal level to seek its effectiveness, and concentrates standards, principles and considerations, as well as good practices regarding registration.

Publication of the guide and its use by local governments. Since its launch, the governments of Sinaloa, Chiapas, Baja California, Guerrero, Oaxaca, among others, have requested technical support for their IDP registration processes.
