The prevention, risk mitigation and response to gender-based violence at the local level in MIRPS countries is fundamental to promoting safe and equitable communities. This approach involves the implementation of policies and programs that address the root causes of gender-based violence, provide support to survivors, and foster a whole-society approach.<\/p>\n

The Regional Technical Team on Local Governance aims to promote protection mechanisms and improve care services for displaced survivors of gender-based violence, with the support of the Follow-up Mechanism to the Bel\u00e9m do Par\u00e1 Convention (MESECVI) of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS), UN Women, and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. These comprehensive and coordinated actions are essential to building an environment where gender equality and respect for human rights become tangible realities for displaced persons and their host communities.<\/p>\n

In 2024, members of the MIRPS Regional Technical Team on Local Governance participated in a introductory session on the Inter-Agency Minimum Standards for Gender-Based Violence Programming in Emergencies and learned about the guidelines for developing a protocol for the protection of migrant, displaced, and refugee women against violence and sexual exploitation. Additionally, they presented their good practices in the prevention and response to gender-based violence. As a final product, a document with tools for specialized programs will be published, containing guidelines, technical recommendations, available resources, and documentation of good practices in this area.<\/p>\n
