Law for the Prevention, Attention and Protection of Internally Displaced Persons<\/p>\n

The Law for the Prevention, Attention, and Protection of Internally Displaced Persons is the first legal framework created to provide a comprehensive response to internal displacement caused primarily by generalized violence in the context of organized crime. Based on the Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement, the Law delimits its scope of protection to persons displaced by events associated with generalized violence and human rights violations. It is the first of its kind in the region and the world.<\/p>\n

After the process of formulating the Law and its first official delivery in 2019, followed by a permanent advocacy campaign, the current National Congress of Honduras approved the Law for the Prevention, Attention and Protection of Internally Displaced Persons on 21 December 2022.
The Law contemplates a series of comprehensive measures to prevent internal displacement, through early warning systems, prevention and contingency plans; humanitarian assistance and protection of affected rights, such as education, housing, land and abandoned or dispossessed property; as well as seed capital and access to justice for the achievement of durable solutions.<\/p>\n
