Forced Displacement in Figures<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

According to data reported by UNHCR in its Mid-Year Global Trends Report, by mid-2025, the Americas were hosting 21.8 million forcibly displaced people and others in need of protection and assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, more than 2,496,000 refugees, asylum-seekers, and internally displaced persons from Central America and Mexico were reported worldwide (MIRPS Annual Report 2025).<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the MIRPS?<\/h2>\n

The Comprehensive Regional Protection and Solutions Framework (MIRPS)<\/a> effectively promotes a coordinated regional response to forced displacement, engages all relevant stakeholders, and galvanizes essential humanitarian, development, public, and private sector initiatives. <\/span><\/p>\n

There are seven countries that make up the MIRPS: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Panama.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Support Platform<\/span><\/h2>\n

The MIRPS Support Platform was established in December 2019 on the sidelines of the first Global Refugee <\/a>Forum<\/a> to support the efforts of the MIRPS countries to seek solutions to forced displacement and to offer protection to those suffering from it. This Support Platform also aims to mobilise support from other players, whether international or national, public or private, in these efforts. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Support Platform is made up of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the European Union (EU), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), France, Spain, Switzerland, Uruguay, the United States of America, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the World Bank Group, and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Organization of American States (OAS) jointly form the Secretariat for the Platform.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
